Building for ThinkBig Dealer Service Technology program
Portland Community College was seeking an integrated team to help guide the design and construction process for a new building to house the ThinkBig Dealer Service Technology program. In partnership with participating Caterpillar dealerships in the Northwest, this program is an industry-specific, two-year associate degree program with required on-site internships and a focus on preparing students to become qualified and experienced Caterpillar Service technicians.
In partnership with CIDA Architects, Robert Evans Company submitted a proposal for consideration. It was ultimately selected by PCC to guide them as they navigated the design and construction of this exciting new development. In working closely with PCC stakeholders and the ThinkBig user group, we were able to discuss and define the needs of the shop and classroom spaces, with an intent to optimize educational opportunity and hands-on experience.
ThinkBig Technician Education Program is housed in a 15,590 sf pre-engineered metal building that includes reception, open office, department chair office, conference room, and kitchenette. Additionally, there is an 8,000 sf shop with 18 workstations, 3 bridge cranes, and 1 JIB crane, complete with a covered outdoor training area, 3 classrooms, and a locker room.
